Pool House with Vintage-Style Steel Windows & Doors

Private Residence – Highland Park, IL

When building an addition to a historic home, care must be taken to ensure that the new construction complements and is in balance with the old.

In the case of this historic North Shore bluff estate, a new pool house addition must also harmonize with the renowned Prairie Style grounds designed by legendary landscape architect Jens Jensen. The grounds include one of the few surviving Jensen-designed meadows and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Hope’s University Series™ steel windows and doors were chosen for the new pool house. The solid steel frame profiles have a unique beveled shape that replicates the look of early 20th Century putty-glazing while providing present-day efficiency and performance. The historically accurate profiles offer vintage detail that integrates well with the existing Tudor Revival architecture of the estate.

Along with the windows and doors surrounding the pool house, Hope’s constructed a large 5000 Series™ steel roof lantern skylight with custom embellishments. The lantern is set atop a green roof to help the pool house blend into the historically significant landscape.
